Children ages 7 to 12 do very well with Martial Arts training. Girls do very well in this age group in particular. Girls gain confidence, discipline and self-defense giving them tools that will help them throughout their lives. Bullying is a huge problem for children of this age. Martial Arts gives the students the confidence and skills necessary to overcome bullies and build strength that will last forever.
Many factors develop the student at Bob Davis Karate. We perform demonstrations and shows in the community. The shows give the students the opportunity to perform in front of people and boost their confidence once they become good at it. Also it gives the student a sense of community, what it means to serve others. The shows are fun! Some examples are the McAllen Palmfest, Borderfest, Hunters Expo, McAllen school district, private schools, Hubfest, etc.
Another great aspect of Bob Davis Karate is competitions. Competitions are optional but offer opportunities to the student. We offer our own tournament circuit through the Texas Chin Mu Kwan Tae kwan Do Federation tournament circuit. There are tournaments in McAllen, Brownsville, Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Palmview. The McAllen tournament is hosted by Master Bob Davis in November, Brownsville is in the summer, Corpus Christi is in April, San Antonio is in September and Palmview in February. The competitions consist of several divisions, breaking wood, forms, sparring, weapons and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. The environment of the tournament competition allows the students to develop leadership skills, learning to perform and speak in front of people, to develop the competitive spirit and drive which encourages intensified training. Our tournaments are invitation only which allows us to maintain professional and inspiring events.
Another great aspect of Bob Davis Karate is the Karate Kids of America just say no to drugs and gangs program. This is a charity that encourages youth to lead drug free lives and to think for themselves and not be influenced by negative outside forces. The Karate Kids sponsors many community events and a letter writing contest in the schools, where the winners receive prizes, scholarships and trips.
Classes with 7 to 12 year olds include stretching (flexibility) strength training, teaching of martial art skills, forms (pre-arranged movements), sparring, self-defense tactics, anti-bully training and conditioning. Classes are designed to be fun yet challenging. Parents are welcome to watch the classes or drop children off. Lots of extra activities are available at Bob Davis Karate. Movie night is held once a month, which gives the parents a night out while we entertain the kids. Remember at Bob Davis Karate, we are open 6 days a week, students can come every day and take multiple classes all for one great price.
